Special Education

Initiating Individual Educational Plan/Admission Review & Dismissal

Parents with children with learning disabilities such as Attention Deficit Disorder with Hyperactivity, Attention Deficit Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorders and other l health impairments often find it necessary to hire someone with knowledge of laws surrounding special education to initiate the IEP/ARD process in order to get their child modifications to their individual educational plan and a behavioral improvement plan. Children with these disorders experience a higher rate of in school suspension and other punitive actions such as placement at alternative campuses. Without an IEP and BIP, children with learning disabilities are not able to learn in the structure of the regular education environment. However without achieving a meeting to initiate the Admission, Review and Dismissal process, parents are unable to achieve special education services with a simple letter from the diagnosing physician.

Special Education in Individual Educational Plans

Special Education Services are provided in the least restrictive environment. This means Special Education Services are written into the Individual Educational Plan and provided in the regular education classroom. For special services such as Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy and/or Physical Therapy, the child is pulled out of their regular education classroom but during a time when they will not miss core subjects such as English, Math, and/or Science. Also, children with an Individual Educational Plan also are allowed to take an alternative TAKS test as well.
